A Zendaya press cycle usually means one couture, project-themed look after another. But for her latest stop on the Spider-Man: Brand New Day world tour on Wednesday in Paris, the Emmy winner opted for a surprising twist, rocking a simple, oversized black T-shirt featuring the iconic webslinger right on the front.
eBay to the Red Carpet
Zendaya and her longtime stylist, Law Roach, paired the vintage graphic tee with white Christian Louboutin pumps-it is a red-carpet photocall, after all-but the real news is that Roach copped the look on eBay for a mere $34.99. The duo effortlessly transformed a budget-friendly, size 2XL secondhand find into a high-fashion, thigh-skimming mini-dress that instantly stole the spotlight from traditional luxury gowns.
Decade of Iconic Method Dressing
Over the years, Zendaya and Roach have crafted legendary red-carpet fashion moments, turning every movie premiere into a masterclass in “method dressing.” Some of their most unforgettable collaborations include making Met Gala magic in 2019 with a glowing Tommy Hilfiger gown that transformed Zendaya into Cinderella, and sourcing a skintight, robotic metallic Thierry Mugler bodysuit from the Fall/Winter 1995 collection for the Dune: Part Two premiere.
They also curated a viral array of tenniscore outfits for Challengers, featuring custom Loewe and Lacoste looks, alongside many spider-web-adorned styles for the four Spider-Man movies over the last decade. Most recently, the duo told a brilliant bridal-themed story for her upcoming wedding dramedy, The Drama. They recycled the white Vivienne Westwood gown Zendaya first wore to the 2015 Oscars as her “something old” and culminated the run with a black-and-blue feathered Schiaparelli ballgown, fresh off the runway, as her “something blue.”
Coincidentally, Zendaya and her Spider-Man co-star Tom Holland legally tied the knot during this exact juncture. However, because the ultra-fashionable powerhouse duo is famously protective of their personal lives, the public may never see what they actually wore when they walked down the aisle.
Brand New Day Wardrobe
While Paris offered a brilliantly casual detour, the rest of the Spider-Man: Brand New Day promotional tour has been a non-stop showcase of custom luxury and archival fashion.
Zendaya kicked off the European press tour in Madrid, stepping out in a fire-engine red Ernest Naranjo dress followed by a sleek, black Christian Cowan gown. In Amsterdam, she opted for high-concept drama, wearing an Alexander McQueen opera coat and dress adorned with metallic floral embroidery, before changing into a black-and-red embellished Louis Vuitton look.
The high-fashion streak continued in Berlin, where she rocked an edgy, custom black leather Louis Vuitton crop top and matching structured skirt. For the stop in Rome, Zendaya leaned heavily into archival history, wearing a stunning, historically relevant beaded spiderweb dress from Giorgio Armani’s Spring 1990 collection, as well as a shimmering Versace crop top and skirt from Fall 1997.
Fans can see the real-life couple share the screen once again when the film, produced by Sony and Marvel Studios, officially hits U.S. theaters on July 31.
