A late-session proposal to set wages across New York’s cannabis industry has sparked fierce pushback from business groups, according to the Times Union. Industry leaders say many marijuana businesses already struggle financially and warn the measure could drive up prices and force some operators to close.
The legislation would create a three-member wage board with authority to hold hearings and recommend minimum pay standards for cannabis workers. It would also require license holders to publicly disclose ownership structures, investors, and employee pay ranges.
Supporters say the bill would strengthen worker protections and improve transparency in the industry. Opponents argue it would increase costs, expose sensitive business information, and make it harder for legal cannabis companies to compete with the illicit market.
