Ithaca leaders want state investigators to take a closer look at NYSEG as customers brace for potential utility rate hikes, according to The Ithaca Voice.
The Common Council unanimously approved a resolution Wednesday urging New York Attorney General Letitia James to investigate NYSEG, RG&E and their parent companies. City officials questioned whether major rate increases are justified, citing utility profits, dividend payments and concerns about service quality.
The resolution also calls for reforms to New York’s utility rate-setting process and greater oversight of future increases. State regulators are still reviewing NYSEG’s proposal to raise electric delivery rates by 35% and gas delivery rates by nearly 40%.
