Geneva police say a Waterloo man turned himself in Tuesday after detectives investigated a violent burglary that left a woman hospitalized with serious injuries.
The Geneva Police Department announced the arrest of 36-year-old Aleem J. Whitfield on a charge of first-degree burglary, a Class B felony, stemming from an incident reported May 24 at a residence in the city.
According to police, detectives determined Whitfield forcibly entered and unlawfully remained inside the residence before physically assaulting a woman. Authorities said the victim was transported to Strong Memorial Hospital with serious injuries and was later released.
Police said Whitfield fled the scene before officers arrived but later turned himself in to investigators on May 26. He was processed at the Geneva Police Department and transported to the Ontario County Jail for arraignment.
Investigators said the incident appears to have been isolated and there is no ongoing threat to the community. Additional charges are pending, according to the department.
Anyone with information related to the incident is asked to contact the Geneva Police Department or Detective Jordan Dobies.
