Pressure grows over Seneca Meadows

Opponents of the Seneca Meadows landfill are ramping up pressure on New York regulators after local officials backed a plan that could keep the site operating until 2040, according to RochesterFirst.

Environmental advocates and residents say odors from the Seneca Falls landfill continue affecting daily life, tourism, and quality of life across the region. The proposed expansion would add 42 acres to the landfill footprint, though the plan still requires state DEC review and another local vote before moving forward.

Critics want the state to reject the permit renewal entirely and begin shutting the landfill down. A formal public comment period is expected once the DEC accepts the proposal for review.
