Canandaigua voters in Wards 1 and 4 assigned new polling locations

Canandaigua voters in Wards 1 and 4 assigned new polling locations

Hundreds of Canandaigua voters will head to new polling locations this election season after the Ontario County Board of Elections approved changes aimed at improving accessibility for voters with mobility challenges.

Under the changes, voters in portions of Wards 1 and 4 will now cast ballots at either Wood Library on North Main Street or the Canandaigua Emergency Squad building on North Pearl Street. Election officials also revised election district boundaries within the city as part of the update.

Officials said voters living near North Main Street between Gibson and Buffalo streets will now vote at Wood Library, while portions of Ward 1 and Ward 4 voters will be reassigned to the Emergency Squad building.

The affected voters previously cast ballots at either the First United Methodist Church on North Main Street or the Lutheran Church on South Pearl Street. The Methodist church will no longer serve as a polling location.

Election officials said the new locations were selected because they offer improved handicapped accessibility, including ground-level entrances and voting areas located on the same floor as entryways.

Voters in Ward 2 will continue voting at the Salvation Army on Saltonstall Street, while Ward 3 voters will remain assigned to the Lutheran Church polling site on South Pearl Street.

The Ontario County Board of Elections urged residents to review recently mailed voter notice cards, which include updated election district assignments and polling place information.

This year’s local primary election is scheduled for Tuesday, June 23. Polls will be open from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. The Democratic primary is the only primary election taking place in Ontario County this year, according to election officials.

Early voting will run from June 13 through June 21. Eligible voters may also vote by mail through absentee or early mail ballot options.
