Target plans to remake more than 130 stores and open 30 new locations this year, according to the Democrat and Chronicle. The retail giant says the sweeping redesign effort will modernize stores, expand grocery offerings, and make shopping faster as customer habits continue shifting.
The upgrades will hit major markets including New York City, Chicago, Miami, Dallas, and Philadelphia. Redesigned stores will feature larger fresh food sections, updated layouts, revamped self-checkout areas, and expanded support for pickup and same-day shopping services.
Target says the project is part of a broader $5 billion investment strategy focused on keeping physical stores central to its business model. Some remodels will also include energy-efficient refrigeration, lighting, and HVAC systems aimed at cutting long-term operating costs.
