Seneca Falls town supervisor arrested after incident at municipal building

The Town Supervisor of Seneca Falls is facing multiple charges after police say an incident inside the municipal building escalated into property damage and unwanted physical contact with another official.

Authorities say the allegations stem from an encounter late this week that prompted a formal complaint and subsequent arrest.

The Seneca Falls Police Department reported that Frank E. Schmitter, 66, of Seneca Falls, was arrested at 4:34 p.m. Friday following a harassment complaint tied to an incident on April 30 at the Seneca Falls Municipal Building.

Police allege Schmitter damaged a wall inside the building and made physical contact with a fellow town board member during the altercation.

Schmitter was charged with third-degree criminal mischief along with official misconduct and second-degree harassment.

He was transported to the Seneca County Correctional Facility to await arraignment in Seneca County’s centralized arraignment court.

An order of protection was requested on behalf of the alleged victim.
