Rail plant bringing jobs to Steuben County

A major manufacturing boost is headed to Steuben County, according to Spectrum News 1, with a new rail production facility planned for Wayland.

Gov. Kathy Hochul says GHH-BONATRANS will invest up to $93 million to build its first North American plant. The site will produce wheelsets, axles, and other rail components closer to U.S. customers.

Construction is expected to start later this year, with operations launching in 2028. Officials say the project could bring up to 85 new jobs, marking another push to expand manufacturing across upstate New York.
