Sabres eliminate Bruins, advance to second round for first time since 2007

The Buffalo Sabres defeated the Boston Bruins 4-1 in Game 6 of their first-round Stanley Cup Playoff series on Friday night at TD Garden, clinching the series 4-2 and advancing to the second round for the first time since 2007.

Buffalo set the tone early with a strong opening period. Alex Tuch and Mattias Samuelsson each found the back of the net, giving the Sabres a two-goal cushion. Boston responded in the second period with a goal from David Pastrnak, cutting the deficit to one, but Buffalo quickly regained control.

Zach Benson restored the two-goal lead early in the third period, capitalizing on sustained pressure in the offensive zone. The Sabres continued to limit Boston’s chances, with goaltender Alex Lyon turning aside 25 shots to preserve the advantage. Josh Norris sealed the win with an empty-net goal in the closing minutes.

Box Score

Buffalo will face the winner of the series between Montreal and Tampa Bay in the second round, with that matchup to be determined following Game 7.
