The New York Yankees were limited to five hits in a 3-0 loss to the Texas Rangers on Wednesday afternoon at Globe Life Field, as New York fell to 20-11 and missed a chance to complete a series sweep. The Yankees’ offense never found rhythm against a dominant outing from Texas starter Nathan Eovaldi.
Making his major league debut, Elmer Rodríguez provided a steady start for New York, allowing two runs on four hits over four-plus innings while striking out three. The right-hander worked out of early trouble, including a bases-loaded jam in the second, and retired six straight batters across the third and fourth innings. However, command issues surfaced in the fifth, leading to a bases-loaded situation before Josh Jung delivered a two-run single that ended Rodríguez’s afternoon.
Eovaldi controlled the game from there, holding the Yankees to four hits across seven scoreless innings while striking out seven. New York struggled to generate consistent offense, grounding into two double plays and failing to capitalize on limited opportunities.
Ben Rice accounted for most of the Yankees’ offense, collecting three of the team’s five hits. Cody Bellinger and Jose Caballero added the only other hits in the loss. The Yankees also saw Jasson Domínguez exit early after being hit by a pitch in the fourth inning.
The Yankees return to action Friday at Yankee Stadium, opening a four-game series against the Baltimore Orioles with first pitch set for 7:05 p.m. Starting pitchers have not yet been announced.
