Rescue teams respond to creek injury near Decker Falls

Multiple emergency crews were called to a challenging rescue in Schuyler County last week after a person was injured in a creek near Decker Falls.

The incident happened around 12:18 p.m. Thursday, April 23, when the Watkins Glen Fire Department Technical Rescue Team was dispatched to Montour Falls for a report of an individual located roughly 40 feet down in a creek bed.

Responders from the Watkins Glen, Montour Falls, and Burdett fire departments, along with Schuyler County EMS and Guthrie Air, were all called to the scene.

Crews worked together to navigate the steep terrain, safely reach the patient, and carry out a coordinated extraction before providing medical care.

No information about the individual’s condition has been released.

Officials said the outcome of the incident reflects the coordination and training of the multiple agencies involved in the response.
