The New York Yankees are set to recall Jasson Domínguez from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, according to ESPN’s Jorge Castillo, as Giancarlo Stanton is expected to be placed on the injured list ahead of Monday’s series opener against the Texas Rangers in Arlington.
Stanton exited Friday’s game with a calf injury, creating an opening for Domínguez, who has been one of the Yankees’ most productive hitters in Triple-A. The outfielder is batting .326 with an .893 OPS and gives the club a left-handed option capable of handling either a corner outfield spot or designated hitter.
The move is likely short-term. Anthony Volpe continues his rehab from offseason shoulder surgery and is expected to log a few more games early this week. A return as soon as Friday remains in play, when New York opens a series against the Baltimore Orioles.
Until then, Domínguez should see immediate opportunities. The Yankees are lined up to face three right-handed starters in Texas, a matchup that could put him in the lineup right away as they try to bridge the gap until they’re back at full strength.
