A fast-moving attic fire tore through a multi-unit home in Auburn early Sunday, displacing a family but leaving all occupants unharmed.
Firefighters were called to 118 North Street around 3:49 a.m., where crews arrived within minutes to find flames coming from the roof of a two-story residential building. Officials said everyone inside had safely evacuated before emergency crews arrived.
Firefighters launched an aggressive interior attack and quickly located heavy fire in the attic. Additional resources were called in as the situation escalated, with a second alarm requested within minutes and a third alarm about 40 minutes into the response.
Crews used multiple handlines and a ladder truck’s aerial stream to bring the fire under control, which took roughly 90 minutes. Firefighters remained on scene until about 8:30 a.m. to assist with the ongoing investigation.
No injuries were reported, but one adult and three children were displaced by the fire. The American Red Cross is assisting the family.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
