Auburn school officials are responding to growing online discussion about an incident involving a staff member and a student, urging caution as misinformation spreads and emphasizing that no malicious intent was found.
In a letter to the Auburn Enlarged City School District community dated April 22, Superintendent Misty L. Slavic said the situation has drawn significant attention on social media, but stressed that the district’s review found no indication of wrongdoing.
Slavic said the staff member involved is receiving care and support, and that the district is focused on ensuring appropriate resources are available for both staff and students.
Because the matter involves a student, the district said it is limited in what details can be shared due to legal and ethical privacy requirements.
According to the letter, the incident has been carefully reviewed, with officials noting that situations involving students with significant needs can be complex and require thoughtful responses. The district said its focus remains on ensuring proper supervision, support, and interventions are in place.
Slavic also addressed the tone of online commentary, warning that some information circulating is incomplete or inaccurate and urging the community to remain mindful that the situation involves a child.
The district said it will continue reviewing its practices and ensuring staff have the training and support needed to maintain safe environments for students and employees.
