Auburn teen indicted in stabbing outside Fingerlakes Mall

An Auburn teenager has been indicted on a violent felony charge after authorities say he stabbed another person outside Fingerlakes Mall.

James Rio, 18, was indicted by a Cayuga County grand jury on one count of second-degree assault in connection with a March incident in the Town of Aurelius.

Prosecutors allege Rio stabbed the victim in the chest with a knife during the altercation.

Rio has already been arraigned and is being held in the custody of the Cayuga County Sheriff’s Office in lieu of bail.

If convicted, he faces up to seven years in prison, followed by three years of post-release supervision.
