Ithaca record store wins big state honor

Crate digging culture just scored a big win in Ithaca, according to The Ithaca Voice. Angry Mom Records picked up a New York State Empire Award for years of music, affordability, and community impact.

Founder George Johann opened the shop in 2009 and built it into a hub on The Commons. The store now doubles as one of the area’s only all-ages music venues, hosting live shows and local festivals.

State Sen. Lea Webb presented the award ahead of Record Store Day on April 18. The shop continues to draw crowds with cheap used albums, rare finds, and a mix of genres.
