Geneva eyes creek project to curb flooding

A buried creek could soon resurface in Geneva, New York as officials look to fight costly flooding, according to the Finger Lakes Times. Leaders are exploring “daylighting” Castle Creek to handle heavier storms and protect infrastructure.

The plan would uncover sections of the creek now running underground, increasing water capacity and improving flow into Seneca Lake. Officials say the move could also boost water quality and reduce erosion.

The project could take decades and cost millions, with early steps already underway. The city is seeking funding to buy and demolish properties sitting above the creek as part of the long-term plan.
