New York will distribute more than $5.1 million for projects targeting invasive species and habitat restoration, including efforts in Wayne and Yates counties.
The funding supports 51 projects statewide focused on prevention, removal and ecosystem recovery.
In Wayne County, the Soil and Water Conservation District will receive $175,125 to purchase equipment for managing aquatic vegetation.
Officials said the project includes a mechanical harvester, trailer and conveyor to help remove invasive plant growth from waterways.
In Yates County, the Keuka Lake Association will receive $105,175 to address fanwort infestations in Keuka Lake.
The project will involve surveying, mapping and controlling the spread of the invasive aquatic plant.
State officials said the grants aim to reduce environmental and economic impacts caused by invasive species while improving long-term ecosystem health.
