Ticks spreading more diseases this spring

Ticks in New York are carrying more diseases this year, raising new health concerns as spring begins, according to Spectrum News 1. Researchers found about one in 10 ticks tested positive for multiple infections.

Lyme disease remains the most common, but cases of babesiosis — a malaria-like illness — are also showing up more often. Experts say co-infections can make diagnosis and treatment more complicated.

Researchers urge people to take precautions outdoors, including wearing protective clothing and checking for ticks frequently. The risk may be higher this season due to environmental conditions.
