New York will provide $20 million in grants to support abortion care services across the state.
Gov. Kathy Hochul said the funding will go to eligible providers through the Supplemental Abortion Provider Support Fund, with 22 organizations notified of their eligibility.
The funding is intended to support medication abortion services and expand access to care.
The grants can be used for hiring and training staff, extending clinic hours, providing care management and covering uncompensated services.
“We are facing a time when our fundamental rights are under attack by anti-choice politicians who are determined to dismantle established reproductive freedoms,“ Hochul said.
State officials said the funding builds on prior investments to expand abortion access following changes in federal law.
“This critical funding ensures clinics have the support they need to continue to provide high quality health care services in communities across the state,” said Health Commissioner Dr. James McDonald.
The program is part of broader state efforts to maintain access to abortion care for residents and those traveling to New York.
