Cornell women’s basketball closes season with Senior Day win over Dartmouth

Cornell women’s basketball closed its season with a victory Saturday afternoon, defeating Dartmouth on Senior Day at Newman Arena. The Big Red finished the season 9-18 overall and 4-10 in Ivy League play.

Clarke Jackson led Cornell with 20 points and 11 rebounds off the bench, recording her third double-double of the season while shooting 10-for-14 from the field. Audrey Chen added 12 points, while Emily Pape scored 11. Rachel Kaus and Paige Engels each contributed 10 points as Cornell placed five players in double figures.

Cornell built control early and led 35-24 at halftime after outscoring Dartmouth in each of the first two quarters. The Big Red continued to pull away in the third period behind Chen, who hit four 3-pointers in the game, all coming in the quarter. Her back-to-back triples early in the frame helped extend the lead to 15 as Cornell outscored Dartmouth 21-17 in the period to take a 56-41 advantage into the final quarter.

Cornell shot a season-best 55 percent from the field and received a strong performance from its bench, which outscored Dartmouth’s reserves 40-15. Engels finished with 10 points and six assists, while Kelsey Langston also recorded six assists as the Big Red totaled 25 assists on 33 made field goals.

Defensively, Cornell held Dartmouth to 35.8 percent shooting and forced 16 turnovers. Alexandra Eldredge led Dartmouth with 12 points.

Seniors Emily Pape and Vivienne Knee were honored before the game. Pape finished with 11 points and eight rebounds, while Knee grabbed seven rebounds in her final home appearance.
