Sabres acquire forward Tanner Pearson from Jets in final trade deadline move

The Buffalo Sabres capped their trade deadline activity by acquiring forward Tanner Pearson from the Winnipeg Jets in exchange for a seventh-round pick in the 2026 NHL Draft, the teams announced Friday.

Pearson, 33, became the fourth player added by Buffalo ahead of the deadline. The move follows earlier acquisitions of forward Sam Carrick from the New York Rangers and defensemen Logan Stanley and Luke Schenn from Winnipeg as the Sabres strengthened their roster for the stretch run.

The 6-foot-1 winger brings experience, physicality and postseason background to Buffalo’s forward group. Pearson has recorded 64 hits this season, a total that now ranks among the top on the Sabres roster alongside fellow deadline additions Schenn, Carrick and Stanley.

Pearson has appeared in 52 games this season, recording seven goals and six assists for 13 points while posting a plus-7 rating with Winnipeg.

The veteran forward also brings extensive playoff experience. Pearson has appeared in 59 career postseason games with the Los Angeles Kings, Vancouver Canucks, and Vegas Golden Knights. He was part of Los Angeles’ Stanley Cup championship team during the 2013-14 season.

Buffalo’s deadline additions add veteran depth, physicality and postseason experience as the Sabres continue pushing to end a playoff drought that dates back to 2011.
