Traffic stop leads to meth arrests in Ithaca

A late-night traffic stop on West Buffalo Street led to the seizure of more than 50 grams of methamphetamine and the arrest of three Ithaca residents, police said.

Officers stopped a vehicle around 10 p.m. Feb. 26 near the 800 block of West Buffalo Street as part of a joint GIVE detail, according to the Ithaca Police Department.

The enforcement team included members of the Ithaca Police Department, New York State Parole, the Tompkins County Sheriff’s Office and New York State Police.

During the investigation, officers seized more than 50 grams of methamphetamine, along with packaging materials, a scale and an undisclosed amount of cash. A small child who was in the vehicle was released to an uninvolved immediate family member.

Police charged Omar J. Punter, 43; Christopher L. Wright, 35; and Destynie M. Wilkinson, 29, all of Ithaca, with two counts each of criminal possession of a controlled substance in the third degree, a class B felony.

Wilkinson was also charged with endangering the welfare of a child, a class A misdemeanor.

All three were arraigned in Ithaca City Court before Judge Wallace. Punter and Wright were remanded to the Tompkins County Jail, while Wilkinson was released under probation supervision.

People arrested by the Ithaca Police Department are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
