Seneca deputies’ quick action credited with saving driver

A crash in Fayette left a Webster man hurt — and deputies scrambling to stop heavy bleeding at the scene.

Michael Montanez-Sanchez of Webster lost control of his vehicle while heading north on State Route 96 and struck a utility pole, according to the Seneca County Sheriff’s Office.

Sheriff Tim Thompson said deputies responded to the personal injury crash around 3:48 p.m. Feb. 11 in the Town of Fayette.

Deputies found Montanez-Sanchez with a lower extremity injury. They treated him on scene and applied a tourniquet to control the bleeding.

North Seneca Ambulance crews arrived and provided additional treatment before transporting him from the scene.

A paramedic told deputies their quick action and use of a tourniquet “without a doubt” helped save the driver’s life.

Fayette Fire Department assisted with traffic control and helped remove the vehicle. NYSEG crews responded to address the damaged utility pole.
