A Palmyra man was charged with driving while intoxicated after a breath test showed a blood alcohol content of 0.30%, nearly four times New York’s legal limit, according to the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office. Deputies arrested 37-year-old Brett M. Houck following a traffic stop in the Town of Palmyra on Sept. 7.
The sheriff’s office said deputies initially responded to a Lyon Road address for a domestic dispute at about 6:22 p.m.
Before deputies arrived, Houck had left the address while allegedly intoxicated and driving a vehicle, according to the agency’s release.
Deputies said Houck returned while they were still at the scene. They reported seeing his vehicle cross the white fog line and fail to stay in its lane.
Houck then tried to pull into his residence and nearly struck the front of a deputy’s vehicle, the sheriff’s office said.
Deputies initiated a traffic stop and said Houck appeared to be under the influence of alcohol. He was unable to complete standardized field sobriety tests, according to the release.
Houck was arrested and taken to the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office, where deputies said he submitted a breath sample that produced the 0.30% reading.
He was issued citations for aggravated DWI with a blood alcohol content above 0.18%, common-law DWI, failure to keep right, second-degree aggravated unlicensed operation and unlicensed operation.
Houck was taken to the Wayne County Jail for processing and is scheduled to appear in court at a later date. Deputy Otto was listed as the investigating officer.
