New York must revamp how it delivers mental health care to children on Medicaid after a federal lawsuit exposed major gaps, according to Spectrum News.
The case, C.K. v. McDonald, claimed state agencies failed to provide required community-based care, leaving kids without help. A recent study found only one in four Medicaid-covered children receive needed services. Under the settlement, the state gets 18 months to plan changes, but advocates warn families can’t wait. They’re pushing lawmakers to add $200 million to the budget and hire nearly 6,300 workers to meet demand.
Gov. Kathy Hochul did not include the funding in her proposal. Advocates now urge state legislators to act faster than the settlement timeline requires.
