A tax dispute with Walmart will cost Auburn a small hit but avoid a bigger risk, according to The Citizen.
The city, Auburn, the Auburn Enlarged City School District, and Cayuga County agreed to lower the assessed value of the Auburn Walmart from $18 million to about $17.33 million. The deal freezes that value for three years.
Walmart had pushed for a much steeper cut, seeking a 44% reduction. City officials say the settlement avoids costly appraisals and limits losses to about $5,000 a year in tax revenue.
