Lawmakers question home care savings

Skepticism is growing in Albany after state officials claimed massive savings from changes to a Medicaid home care program, according to Spectrum News 1.

Gov. Kathy Hochul’s administration says consolidating the Consumer Directed Personal Assistance Program under Public Partnerships LLC is saving up to $1.2 billion a year. Lawmakers say they haven’t seen proof.

Several senators argue ongoing problems — including late or incorrect pay for workers — undercut those claims. They’re demanding detailed data and plan to push legislation to reform the program, regardless of the savings estimate.

Disability advocates rallied in Albany, calling for higher wages and more oversight. State budget officials insist the savings are real and the transition worked.
