Cornell women’s basketball falls to Brown, snaps three-game win streak

Cornell women’s basketball saw its three-game win streak come to an end with a 64-48 Ivy League loss to Brown Bears women’s basketball on Saturday afternoon at Newman Arena. The Big Red dropped to 7-9 overall and 2-1 in conference play, while Brown improved to 11-4 and 3-0 in the Ivy League.

Junior Rachel Kaus led Cornell Big Red women’s basketball with 13 points on 4-of-7 shooting and went 5-for-6 at the free-throw line, adding five rebounds. Clarke Jackson finished with 11 points, four rebounds and two assists, while first-year guard Trinity Jones chipped in 10 points off the bench for her first career double-digit scoring game. Emily Pape added seven points and a team-high six rebounds. Cornell shot 31.4 percent from the field and 15.8 percent from three-point range.

Brown was paced by Grace Arnolie’s game-high 27 points, including seven made 3-pointers. Alyssa Moreland recorded a double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds as the Bears shot 45.6 percent from the floor.

Cornell jumped out to an early 6-2 lead, but Brown closed the first quarter on a 12-3 run. After Cornell briefly tied the game early in the second quarter, the Bears used a flurry of 3-pointers to build a double-digit halftime lead. The Big Red cut the margin to five early in the third quarter, but Brown responded with an 8-0 run to regain control and carried a 49-31 advantage into the final period.
