High property taxes and soaring electric bills fueled a surprise campaign launch this week, according to Spectrum News. Former New York Lt. Gov. Betsy McCaughey announced she’s running for governor of Connecticut, seeking the Republican nomination to challenge Democratic Gov. Ned Lamont.
McCaughey pitched herself as a problem-solver, arguing jobs keep leaving the state and costs keep climbing. She made the announcement on X and framed the race as a chance to shake up Hartford.
She previously served one term as New York’s lieutenant governor under George Pataki before a public split. After leaving office, she launched a national campaign to reduce hospital-acquired infections and became a New York Post columnist.
