As colder weather pushes energy use higher, RochesterFirst reports that RG&E is steering customers toward help paying their bills. Applications are now open statewide for the Emergency Home Energy Assistance Program, known as HEAP.
RG&E says customer advocates are holding outreach sessions in January at its West Avenue office to explain assistance options, including budget billing, payment plans, and energy-saving tools. While staff won’t file HEAP applications, they guide customers through available programs before bills become unmanageable.
Customers who qualify for HEAP also receive automatic enrollment in the state’s Energy Affordability Program, which provides monthly bill credits. RG&E says the goal is simple: help customers avoid shutoffs as winter heating costs climb.
