$1M secured for Olean water plant

A $1 million federal investment could help prevent serious problems at Olean’s water filtration plant and protect drinking water across the city.

Congressman Nick Langworthy announced he secured the funding for repairs to the facility’s exterior walls and replacement of critical filter media. The money appears in a House-passed appropriations package now moving through Congress.

“This $1 million investment will help prevent serious structural failures at Olean’s water filtration plant, protect public health, and ensure reliable water service for families, hospitals, schools, and businesses who depend on it every day,” Langworthy said.

City officials have warned that deteriorating exterior walls and aging filtration components pose growing risks to the plant’s long-term operation. They say delays could disrupt potable water service and weaken fire protection, creating major public safety concerns.

Langworthy said the funding will help stabilize the structure, modernize key filtration elements, and extend the life of the facility. “Bringing federal resources home to the Southern Tier will always be one of my top priorities,” he said.

The repairs aim to safeguard one of Olean’s most critical pieces of infrastructure and avoid more costly emergencies in the future.
