Teen users will soon hit unavoidable warning labels the moment certain social media features kick in, according to Spectrum News. Gov. Kathy Hochul signed the new law to flag features tied to excessive use and mental health risks.
The law forces platforms to show warnings when young users first access so-called predatory features and again over time. Users can’t click past them or opt out. Supporters say the goal is transparency as studies link heavy social media use to higher anxiety, depression, and body image issues.
Assemblymember Nily Rozic says the measure uses medical research to put public health first and give families clearer information about online risks.
