Judge upholds NY Green Light Law

A federal judge shut down the Justice Department’s attempt to block New York’s Green Light Law, keeping driver’s licenses available to undocumented immigrants, according to the Times Union.

U.S. District Judge Anne M. Nardacci dismissed the lawsuit, ruling that federal immigration agencies have no right to broad access to New York’s motor vehicle database. She said the state law does not conflict with federal immigration statutes.

The Green Light Law allows nonresident immigrants to get standard driver’s licenses while limiting data sharing with federal immigration officials. State leaders, including Kathy Hochul, praised the decision as a win for public safety and state authority.
