Victor man indicted after alcohol caused death of teen

Police arrested a man after officers investigated the death of an 18-year-old who was found unresponsive at a Victor home.

State Police later identified the suspect as Ariel Ceja, 32, of Victor. Investigators tied the case to alcohol served to the teen before her death.

State Police and emergency crews responded to a home on Winding Creek Way on Aug. 5 after a report of an unresponsive female. Maria Cecilia De Jesus-Garcia was pronounced dead at the scene.

An autopsy later determined she died from complications of acute ethanol intoxication.

Troopers from the State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation conducted interviews and reviewed surveillance footage as part of the case. Investigators focused on Adelita’s Mexican Cocina and Tequila, where De Jesus-Garcia worked and was last known to have consumed alcohol.

The investigation determined alcoholic beverages were served to her while she was under the legal drinking age.

An Ontario County Grand Jury later returned an indictment charging Ceja.

State Police arrested Ceja on Dec. 18. Troopers charged him with criminally negligent homicide, a felony, and unlawful dealing with a child in the first degree involving alcohol, a misdemeanor.

Troopers took Ceja into custody without incident. They processed him at State Police Canandaigua and transported him to the Ontario County Jail pending arraignment.
