Police arrested a Town of Lyons man after a grand jury investigation uncovered years of alleged sexual abuse involving a child.
Matthew J. Hagar faces 12 felony counts tied to repeated sexual abuse that investigators say began when the victim was a child and continued into adulthood, according to the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office.
The Wayne County Grand Jury issued the indictment on Nov. 21 after an investigation by sheriff’s detectives and deputies.
The charges include multiple counts of rape in the first degree, predatory sexual assault against a child, incest in the first degree, and course of sexual conduct against a child in the first degree.
Investigators said the victim is a female who is related to Hagar and was sexually abused for years.
Authorities said Hagar was on probation at the time of the alleged crimes.
The sheriff’s office reported that he was serving probation for criminal sexual act in the second degree involving a victim under 15 years old. Investigators said the new allegations violate that probation and involve a level 3 registered sex offender.
Hagar appeared in Wayne County Court before Judge Williams.
The court remanded him to the Wayne County Jail without bail on all charges, according to the sheriff’s office.
