NY’s renewable plan draws Democratic backlash

Clean energy advocates and top Democrats blasted a scaled-back renewable plan from the New York Power Authority, according to the Times Union. The authority finalized a strategy backing 45 renewable projects totaling 5.5 gigawatts, down from earlier targets and far below what critics want.

Progressive lawmakers say the plan risks delaying New York’s climate goals under the 2019 Climate Act. Some leaders want the authority to build 15 gigawatts by 2030 and accuse it of moving too cautiously.

Power Authority officials say private developers dropped projects and rising costs limited options. Legislative Democrats now push to expand the authority’s board, aiming to drive more aggressive public investment in clean energy.
