Veterans groups, casinos clash over gaming bill

A bill to let nonprofits use electronic bell jar machines is headed to Gov. Kathy Hochul’s desk — and it’s sparked a fierce battle between veterans’ groups and casino interests, according to Spectrum News.

Supporters say the machines could raise millions for local VFWs and Elks Lodges, but the Seneca Nation and state Gaming Association argue the devices violate tribal gaming compacts and encourage problem gambling.

Hochul has until the end of December to sign or veto the measure, with major political and financial stakes on both sides.
