William Smith hockey shuts out Manhattanville

William Smith hockey closed out the 2025 portion of its schedule with a 3-0 victory over Manhattanville on Saturday afternoon at The Cooler, improving to 7-3-0 and securing its best 10-game start since the 2019-20 campaign. Junior goalie Mia Iwicki backstopped the win with a 27-save shutout, her second of the season.

The Herons grabbed control early, opening the scoring midway through the first period when Seneca Urban buried a rebound from the left circle. Laine Heiser and Bella Hacker factored into the play, beginning productive afternoons for both skaters. After a tight, scoreless second period, William Smith doubled its lead just 1:06 into the third. Hacker converted a pass from Kelly Howe for her fourth goal of the year, with first-year Finley Crosby adding an assist.

Manhattanville pushed to cut into the deficit, but Iwicki held firm as the Valiants generated pressure late. With the clock winding down, Heiser sealed the result by blocking a shot in her own end and sending the puck the length of the ice for an empty-net tally with 21 seconds left.

William Smith finished with a 34-27 edge in shots on goal and limited Manhattanville to an 0-for-1 performance on the power play. The Herons went 0-for-4 with the extra skater. Manhattanville goalie Olivia Cimorelli stopped 31 shots in the loss.
