William Smith hockey 2-0 to UMass Boston in a non-conference matchup at the Edward T. Barry Ice Rink on Sunday afternoon. The Beacons scored both goals in the second period and held on to secure the victory in the Codfish Bowl consolation game.

Junior Julia Chase started in net for the Herons, making 18 saves over nearly 59 minutes. Leah Bosch stopped 23 shots to earn the shutout for UMass Boston. Maggie Lynch opened the scoring midway through the second period, followed three minutes later by Shayna Chin’s goal to give the Beacons a 2-0 lead.
The Herons outshot UMass Boston 23-20 for the game and maintained a 9-6 edge in shots on goal through the first period. Despite generating multiple scoring opportunities, including chances from senior Kelly Howe, sophomore Ainsley Lonczak, and first-year Finley Crosby, William Smith was unable to find the back of the net. Both teams went scoreless on the power play, with William Smith finishing 0-for-4 and UMass Boston 0-for-3.
The final period saw limited offensive action, with both teams recording just four shots on goal.
The loss dropped William Smith to 5-3-0 on the season, while UMass Boston improved to 5-2-1.
The Herons will return to action next weekend, hosting Manhattanville at The Cooler. Faceoff for Friday’s matchup is scheduled for 7 p.m.
