No. 17 Cornell men’s hockey dropped a 2-1 decision to No. 19 Boston University on Saturday night in the 10th edition of Red Hot Hockey at Madison Square Garden. The loss halted the Big Red’s five-game win streak and brought their record to 6-3-0. BU improved to 7-7-1.

Cornell carried much of the play, outshooting the Terriers 29-17 and generating a significant edge in shot attempts, but BU capitalized on key moments. The Terriers opened the scoring midway through the first period on a power-play deflection. Cornell responded late in the second when freshman Reegan Hiscock finished off a smooth passing sequence to pull the Big Red even.
BU reclaimed the lead early in the third when Cole Eiserman slipped a sharp-angle shot through traffic for what proved to be the winning goal. Cornell pressed heavily in the final minutes, including a 6-on-4 opportunity after a late BU penalty, but a point-shot off the crossbar was as close as the Big Red came to tying the game.
Cornell finished 0-for-4 on the power play, ending a streak of four straight games with a man-advantage goal. Freshman goaltender Alexis Cournoyer stopped 15 shots, while BU’s Mikhail Yegorov made 28 saves to secure the win.
The Big Red remain among the nation’s stingiest defensive teams, allowing just 13 goals through their first nine games, a mark reached only seven times in program history.
Cornell heads to the North Country next weekend for ECAC matchups at Clarkson and St. Lawrence.
