Sheriff adds drone patrols to protect holiday shoppers at Eastview

With nearly 2 million shoppers expected this season, safety is a top priority at Eastview Mall.

The Ontario County Sheriff’s Office is stepping up patrols around the mall and nearby areas, with a mix of boots on the ground and eyes in the sky. Sheriff David Cirencione joined mall officials and Victor Farmington Ambulance crews this week to share their plan for keeping the holiday rush safe and stress-free.

Deputies will be on-site daily, and this year, a drone will fly overhead to monitor crowds and spot trouble early. It’s part of a broader effort to handle everything from theft to medical emergencies quickly and calmly.

The sheriff’s team also offered practical tips for shoppers:

  • Lock your cars. Thieves look for easy targets.
  • Hide packages and purses. The trunk is your best bet.
  • Note your parking spot. Use the letter/number poles as a guide.
  • Don’t leave belongings unattended. Even for a quick bathroom trip.
  • Need help? Deputies and Eastview Mall security can assist with things like dead batteries or lockouts.
  • Medical problem? Ambulance crews will be nearby—and even stationed at the mall on peak days.
  • See something suspicious? Call 911 or alert mall security or deputies.

The message: Enjoy the season—but stay alert.
