A federal judge gave preliminary approval to a $27 million settlement with DuPont over toxic water contamination in Hoosick Falls, according to the Times Union.
This adds to the $65 million already secured from other companies accused of polluting the village’s water with harmful chemicals for decades. Residents exposed to the contamination can now file claims, with public meetings set for January to guide them through the process.
The suit, nearly 10 years in the making, accused DuPont of knowingly supplying dangerous chemicals used in local factories. The funds will cover property losses and medical monitoring for thousands of affected residents.
