Higher utility bills are hitting Central New York households, with electricity costs rising about 7% starting this month, according to CNY Central.
Officials say the increase adds roughly $6 to the average monthly electric bill, while gas bills are climbing nearly 12%, or about $8 more. The hike marks the second phase of a multi-step rate plan already approved for National Grid.
The company says the added costs fund infrastructure upgrades, including new substations and replacing aging equipment. Even customers who don’t change usage will still see higher bills because delivery costs continue to climb.
