AUBURN — Boaters across Cayuga County are being urged to use caution as flooding and heavy rainfall have created dangerous conditions on local lakes and waterways.
The Cayuga County Sheriff’s Office issued a warning Thursday, citing an increase in floating debris and other hazards that may not be visible from the surface.
Officials said recent weather conditions have contributed to debris entering waterways, creating risks for anyone navigating by boat in the coming days and weeks. Some of the hazards may be submerged or difficult to detect, increasing the likelihood of accidents or damage.
Authorities are advising boaters to remain alert and exercise caution until conditions stabilize.
