MANCHESTER — Assemblyman Jeff Gallahan is criticizing the state’s failure to pass an on-time budget, calling it a recurring breakdown in leadership that is creating uncertainty for local governments and taxpayers.
In a statement released April 1, the Republican representing the 131st Assembly District said New Yorkers are once again left without a finalized spending plan as the fiscal year begins.
Gallahan placed blame on Democratic leadership in Albany, arguing that one-party control has led to delays, rising costs, and policy decisions that strain schools and local communities. He also criticized the budget process as lacking transparency, saying negotiations conducted behind closed doors leave municipalities and school districts unable to plan effectively.
The lawmaker said the ongoing uncertainty ultimately shifts more pressure onto local property taxpayers and pledged to continue pushing for what he described as a more transparent and fiscally responsible budget.
