Governor Kathy Hochul is catching fire from progressives and Republicans after New York paused enforcement of its all-electric building mandate, according to Spectrum News. The delay follows a lawsuit from gas and construction groups — and comes just after Hochul approved a gas pipeline and greenlit an air permit for a crypto mining plant.
Progressives called the move a political ploy ahead of 2026, accusing Hochul of bowing to industry pressure and undercutting climate goals. Republicans, while glad to see the pause, say it doesn’t go far enough and want a full repeal.
Hochul’s office says she’s staying committed to the law but is balancing affordability with clean energy — a stance critics on both sides see as calculated.
