No. 22 William Smith soccer fell 2-1 in overtime to Rochester Institute of Technology in the Liberty League Semifinals on Cozzens Field Friday afternoon. The Tigers netted the game-winner with just over a minute left in the extra frame to advance to the conference championship.

Izzy Thors scored the lone goal for the Herons, bending in a corner kick from the left side in the 68th minute for her first of the season. Junior goalkeeper Antonia Goerke played the full match, recording four saves.
RIT struck first in the ninth minute when Lily Doucette curved a shot from the left corner inside the far post. After William Smith’s equalizer, the match stayed level through regulation despite several close chances, including a diving stop by RIT’s Emily Sanchez on Julia Bragg and a high attempt from Charlotte Brown early in overtime.
The Tigers sealed the win in the 99th minute when Bella Coccio redirected a cross from Doucette over the line for her fourth goal of the year.
The Herons held a 9-3 edge in corner kicks but were outshot 15-11 overall and 6-5 on goal. The overtime loss marked the Herons’ first home defeat of the season.
William Smith ends its season at 11-3-3, while RIT moves to 10-3-6 and advances to face Vassar in the Liberty League final.
