Attorney General Letitia James speaks out after arraignment in Virginia

New York Attorney General Letitia James addressed the public Friday after being arraigned in Norfolk, Virginia, issuing a defiant and emotional statement in response to what she described as a politically motivated case.

While no details about the charges were provided in the public release, James framed the legal action against her as part of a broader effort to “weaponize” the justice system against public servants.

“This is not about me,” James said. “This is about all of us, and about a justice system which has been weaponized — a system being used as a tool of revenge.”

In her remarks, James thanked supporters across the country for their prayers, messages, and encouragement, calling it “a strength to my spirit.” She also reaffirmed her belief in the justice system, even as she criticized what she sees as an abuse of its power.

James remained resolute, repeating the words “no fear” as she vowed to continue her work on behalf of New Yorkers. She said the arraignment would not derail her mission.

“I will not be deterred. I will not be distracted,” she said. “There is work to be done standing up for the rule of law.”

Though the specifics of the arraignment have not been made public, James’ statement suggests the case stems from her high-profile legal battles and outspoken role in holding powerful figures accountable.

James, who has served as New York’s attorney general since 2019, has led investigations into former President Donald Trump, the National Rifle Association, and large corporations — efforts that have drawn both praise and fierce criticism from across the political spectrum.

She ended her statement by invoking justice and righteousness, quoting the words: “Justice will rain down like water and righteousness like a mighty stream.”
